Upper back rolls, often called “bra fat” can be quite difficult to reduce. Back rolls typically become more common with age and weight gain. However, even if you’re at your ideal weight, excess skin along the armpit and upper back can bulge from the edges of your bra. Unfortunately, in many cases, these rolls can’t be reduced with exercise. At Neaman Plastic Surgery, we provide a bra line back lift to help smooth your back and achieve a more sculpted contour.

A bra line back lift is a body contouring procedure that corrects loose, sagging skin or fat rolls on the upper and middle back. A bra line back lift can help sculpt your back by addressing excess fat along the bra line. This procedure leaves you with a tighter, more toned back. A bra line back lift removes excessive tissue that roles over the bra strap, creating a smooth and uniform contour to the upper and lower back.

THE BRA LINE BACK LIFT PROCEDURE

A bra line back lift is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made across the target area giving access to the excess skin and tissue. If needed or desired, liposuction will be utilized during surgery to remove any fatty bulges. By combining liposuction with a back lift, it helps to improve the final shape and contour. Finally, excess skin will be excised with the remaining skin being pulled taut to smooth out the region. The incision will be sutured shut with special care that any scars will be hidden beneath the bra or bathing suit.

RECOVERY

We will provide compression garments to help minimize swelling and improve the healing process. You will be able to shower within a day of your surgery.

Do not wear a bra for one to two weeks, raise your arms above your head or take a bath. After two weeks have passed, a soft bra can be worn again and the activity level can be slowly increased. Patients can resume strenuous exercise within about four weeks.

If you are in good general health and would like to address multiple areas of your body, we do recommend combining multiple procedures. This helps to cut down on surgical costs, reduce recovery time and most importantly, produce superior results. A back lift is often performed alongside other body contouring procedures such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, and body lift.

WILL I HAVE SCARS?

Dr. Neaman and Dr. Christiansen have been specially trained to hide scars during the procedure. In most cases, all scars resulting from a bra line back lift are able to be well hidden under a bra or other clothing.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE MY RESULTS?

Although you will be able to see a dramatic change in your appearance immediately, your full results can usually be seen about 6 months after recovery.

Back lift results are meant to be long-lasting; however, the best way to ensure you maintain your smooth, firm contours, is to follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen after your surgery.
