Botox has been looked at as the wonder treatment for treating wrinkles for some time now. And although it does usually achieve amazing results when administered by a skilled injector such as the specialists at Neaman MediSpa, it isn’t a one-size-fits-all treatment. Some patients fail to receive the desired results they’re looking for. When this occurs, it’s known as Botox resistance, and it can be quite discouraging.

What is Botox Resistance?

Botox resistance is when a patient’s body builds up an immunity against the botulinum toxin, or it metabolizes the solution preventing any type of long-term results. Botox resistance, although very much a real thing, is extremely rare – occurring in as few as one patient in 10,000. Some people do, however, build up a tolerance to Botox due to repeated use and require higher dosages to produce noticeable results.

Other causes for Botox resistance may include:

  • Not being injected with enough solution – Again, Botox is not one-size-fits-all so the dosage that works for you may not work for someone else. Some patients simply need more Botox to induce muscle weakness. Your skin quality will help to determine how much solution to use and a skilled injector will be able to determine the correct dosage for your individual needs.
  • The Botox may be old or, even worse, fake – It’s essential to receive your injections from a reputable facility such as Neaman MediSpa to avoid incidences such as this one. Once the unit of Botox has been opened, it needs to be used, or it becomes diluted and doesn’t produce sufficient results. And, believe it or not, there have been some reports of people actually receiving fake Botox. Do your research and know where you’re receiving your injections.
  • Injections were made in the wrong place – Knowledge of facial anatomy is imperative when injecting Botox or any dermal filler. Botox needs to be precisely injected into the muscle to work. It cannot be too deep or too superficial; otherwise, you will not receive the results you are looking to achieve.
  • Your muscles simply don’t respond to Botox – Everyone is different, and not all people get results from Botox. Dysport and Xeomin are also neuromodulators that target muscles to eliminate wrinkles and relax the face. If Botox isn’t producing the results you want, one of these other injectables might be a better alternative.
