Stretch marks are scars that develop when our skin stretches or shrinks rapidly. The abrupt change can cause the skin to rapture, and when the skin heals, stretch marks form. Stretch marks commonly develop during pregnancy, growth spurts, rapid weight loss, and weight training. Although not hazardous to your health, stretch marks can affect your self-esteem. Here are some conventional treatments for stretch mark reduction.

Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation of your skin is a simple way to treat stretch marks. This process removes dead skin and can enhance your results. Without dead skin, other topical treatments can penetrate more deeply and work faster. There are many scrubs that can be applied to your body to polish away dirt, oil, and debris. You should try to exfoliate your skin at least once per week.

Creams and Lotions

There are many over the counter products that you can apply to stretch marks. Your doctor can also prescribe some of them. It is recommended that you use the products at the first visible sign of marks. You must massage the products, and apply them consistently for a few months. Always discuss any topical treatment with your doctor. Some products can cause an allergic reaction or may not be sufficient enough.

Home Remedies

You may have some products lying around the house that treat stretch marks effectively. Olive oil, cocoa butter, vitamin E, coconut oil, argan oil can diminish visibility.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

Sun exposure can make your existing scars and marks more noticeable. Sun can also break down the skin’s collagen fibers, making a person more at risk of stretch marks. You may want to try self-tanner to camouflage the marks. Tanners will not get rid of them, but it is a quick and effective cover-up.

Laser Therapy

Ultimately, laser therapy will be one of the most effective treatment methods for treating stretch marks. During this procedure, lasers penetrate the skin, triggering regeneration. The lasers also stimulate melanin production, activating pigment cells in your skin. The stretch marks will blend to your normal skin tone, making them less noticeable. Laser therapy requires more than one session to start seeing results. There are a number of treatments available, and you should discuss all of the options with your doctor.

Stretch marks are a very common skin issue. Before you pursue treatment, understand that your stretch marks may not disappear completely. Cosmetic procedures will be more expensive, but they may permanently remove white stretch marks from your body.
