WHAT IS IPLPHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It is a cosmetic technology based on the use of wavelengths of light that reduce redness and reverse the signs of aging without the need for surgery. IPL serves as an ideal alternative to treatments that are more invasive.

IPL treatment rejuvenates the skin through several mechanisms. Pulses of light reach the deeper layers, initiating biological processes that repair damage and prevent signs of aging in the future. The skin’s superficial layer sloughs off and reveals young cells. Lastly, collagen growth stimulation makes your skin cells start to behave as though they are younger again by providing renewed elasticity and thickness.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN IPL PHOTOFACIAL? 

During your treatment, the technician begins by cleaning the skin to be treated. A cooling gel is then applied to the area. You receive dark glasses to protect your eyes before the treatment begins. The treatment is not painful and therefore no anesthetic is necessary. However, stinging or tingling sensations may occur. Some patients compare this to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped against your skin.

HOW LONG IS EACH TREATMENT?

Treatment sessions typically last for a duration of 20 to 30 minutes. Afterward, you can continue your day as you normally would. The treatment area may have some redness and feel warm and there may also be some light swelling. All such effects should subside within a span of several days.

HOW IPL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT WORKS

While other types of laser treatments utilize a single wavelength, IPL makes use of an assortment of different wavelengths of light. This results in a laser light that is not as focused, and that can target broader areas. IPL can address the entire chest, face, neck, or hands. IPL avoids excessively damaging the skin by penetrating the dermis’s second layer without damaging the top surface of the skin. In cases of acne, IPL oxygenates the skin’s pores and kills the bacteria responsible for the blemishes.

During IPL treatment, the cells of pigment that produce the color in your skin tone absorb light energy, which is then converted into heat. The pigment cells which are being subjected to the increased heat will die. This removes the source of skin discoloration and reveals and more youthful, fresh skin beneath. With multiple treatments, the skin grows healthier and thicker. Results improve over time as the skin rebuilds itself from within.
