TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS
The most common types of breast implants are either saline or silicone. “Form stable” implants are also an option.
SILICONE BREAST IMPLANTS
Silicone breast implants have been a highly popular breast implant option for years. Many patients say they look and feel the most like “real breasts.” Silicone implants are filled with a gel silicone that feels a bit like a gummy bear. Silicone implants are filled with a certain number of cc’s to the requested size. One benefit of silicone implants is that if it breaks or ruptures (which is rare), the silicone stays within the implant shell.
Saline breast implants are filled with a solution of water and salt. The implant is an empty shell that is filled with the desired amount of cc’s after insertion. Saline is similar to the plasma in the body, which is a major benefit for some patients. Should the breast implant leak, the body can safely absorb the saline.
FORM STABLE IMPLANTS
Dubbed the “gummy bear implant,” these breast implants look and feel natural, and are designed specifically to be placed over the muscle. It’s a great choice for patients who want to avoid the more invasive below-the-muscle breast implant surgery.
