Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a popular procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids. At Neaman Plastic Surgery, we recommend blepharoplasty for patients experiencing the following conditions:
Excess Skin on Upper Eyelids:
- Indication: Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision.
- Benefit: Removes the excess skin to provide a more alert and youthful appearance and can improve peripheral vision.
Puffy Upper Eyelids:
- Indication: Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids.
- Benefit: Reduces puffiness, giving the eyes a more rested and rejuvenated look.
Under-Eye Bags:
- Indication: Bags or puffiness under the eyes caused by protruding fat pads.
- Benefit: Smooth the under-eye area for a more refreshed and youthful appearance.
Excess Skin and Fine Wrinkles of the Lower Eyelids:
- Indication: Loose, sagging skin and fine wrinkles on the lower eyelids.
- Benefit: Tightens and smooths the skin, reducing wrinkles and giving a more youthful look to the lower eyelids.
Drooping Lower Eyelids:
- Indication: Lower eyelids that droop and expose the white part below the iris (sclera), which can give a tired or sad appearance.
- Benefit: Corrects the drooping, improving the overall eye shape and appearance.
Asymmetry of the Eyelids:
- Indication: Noticeable asymmetry between the two eyelids.
- Benefit: Creates a more symmetrical and balanced appearance.
Tired or Aged Appearance:
- Indication: General tired or aged appearance due to changes in the eyelids.
- Benefit: Refreshes and rejuvenates the overall eye area, making you look more alert and youthful.
Functional Concerns:
- Indication: Functional issues such as impaired vision or difficulty applying makeup due to excess upper eyelid skin.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can be effectively combined with several other procedures to achieve a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Here are some common procedures that can be combined with eyelid surgery:
Brow Lift:
Purpose:
A brow lift elevates drooping eyebrows and smooths out forehead wrinkles.
Benefit:
Combining a brow lift with eyelid surgery can enhance the upper face, creating a more youthful and refreshed appearance. This combination simultaneously addresses sagging brows and drooping eyelids, providing a harmonious rejuvenation of the eye area.
Face and Neck Lift:
Purpose:
A facelift addresses sagging skin and deep wrinkles on the face, while a neck lift tightens loose skin and improves muscle tone in the neck area.
Benefit:
When combined with eyelid surgery, a face and neck lift provides a comprehensive approach to facial aging. This combination addresses multiple signs of aging across the entire face and neck, resulting in a more balanced and youthful overall appearance.
CO2 Laser Resurfacing:
Purpose:
CO2 laser resurfacing removes the outer layers of damaged skin, reducing wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation issues.
Benefit:
Combining CO2 laser resurfacing with eyelid surgery can significantly improve skin texture and tone. This combination smooths fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and enhances the results of blepharoplasty by creating a more radiant and even complexion.

Start Your JourneyCan this be covered by insurance?
Depending on the specific circumstances, eyelid surgery can sometimes be covered by insurance. Insurance may cover if the surgery is deemed medically necessary, such as in cases where drooping upper eyelids significantly impair vision. A thorough examination and documentation of the impairment are typically required. Cosmetic eyelid surgery, performed solely for aesthetic reasons, is generally not covered by insurance. It’s best to consult with your insurance provider and our team to determine if your specific situation qualifies for coverage.
Will there be visible scarring?
Scarring from eyelid surgery is typically minimal and strategically placed to be as inconspicuous as possible. For upper eyelid surgery, incisions are made within the eyelid’s natural crease, which helps hide any scars. For lower eyelid surgery, incisions can be made just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival approach), leaving no visible external scar. With proper care and following post-operative instructions, any scars will fade significantly over time and become barely noticeable.

VIEW OUR GALLERYBREAST AUGMENTATION RECOVERY
Recovery after a rapid recovery breast augmentation at Neaman Plastic Surgery is a meticulously planned and patient-centered process aimed at minimizing downtime and discomfort while ensuring a smooth and comfortable healing journey. Here’s a breakdown of what you can generally expect during your recovery:
How long is the recovery?
Recovery time for eyelid surgery varies by individual and the extent of the procedure. Here’s a general timeline:
First Week
- Expect some swelling and bruising, which can be managed with cold compresses and prescribed medications. After a few days, most patients can resume light activities.
7-10 Days
- Stitches are usually removed, and most of the bruising and swelling should start to subside. Many patients feel comfortable returning to work and social activities within this period. However, makeup can help conceal any remaining discoloration.
2-4 Weeks
- Swelling continues to decrease, and the final results become more apparent. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should still be avoided.
6 Weeks and Beyond
- Most of the healing is complete, and you can return to normal activities without restrictions. The final results will continue to improve over the next several months as the tissues settle.
