While microneedling can sound scary, (seriously, who wants needles poking the skin on their face?), it is actually a pretty non-invasive treatment that can help to repair and renew your skin. At Neaman MediSpa, we offer microneedling to patients who are looking to rejuvenate their appearance while improving the overall health of their skin.

What Is Microneedling?

This effective skin care solution stimulates collagen production by tricking your body to heal itself. It does this by making tiny micro-punctures in the skin via a handheld device with little needles. These small punctures create channels that trigger your body to naturally fill them in by producing new collagen and new elastin, the two proteins essential for great skin. This, in turn, helps to tighten your skin and improve a variety of skin flaws including acne scars, tone, texture, and even stretch marks.

Add PRP For True Skin Renewal

If the winter months took a toll on your skin and you need enhanced skin renewal, consider adding PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, to your microneedling treatment. PRP is a natural serum that is derived from your very own blood. It is comprised of platelets, growth factors and stem cells which, when reinjected back into your skin, helps to accelerate healing and significantly improves results. When used during microneedling, a small vial of blood is drawn from your body and then placed in a centrifuge to separate it. The PRP is put into the tiny channels to encourage cell renewal and regeneration.

To make microneedling as comfortable as possible, a numbing cream may be applied to your face prior to treatment. Most patients can tolerate treatment well and don’t complain of any discomfort. Immediately after treatment, your skin may be temporarily flushed, but redness should subside within 24 hours.

Your results will continue to improve over time as it can take eight to 12 weeks for collagen to build. Multiple sessions are recommended to achieve full results followed by maintenance treatments every three to four months.

Extended Time Release With PRF

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, can also be used on your face to erase signs of aging and fill in those lines and wrinkles. PRF uses the fibrin matrix which similarly releases growth factors to medicines that are extended time release. This expedites healing and allows for longer-lasting results. However, it cannot be combined with microneedling and will need to be performed on its own.
