Gynecomastia Causes: Insight from Neaman Plastic Surgery
At Neaman Plastic Surgery, we believe knowledge empowers our patients. Gynecomastia is a condition we often address, and understanding its root causes is a pivotal step in the journey to optimal health and confidence. Let’s delve into the most common causes of gynecomastia:
Small Breasts:
Our compassionate and experienced team understands that individuals with naturally smaller breasts may desire increased fullness and volume. We offer a solution that can enhance their confidence and help them achieve their desired breast size harmoniously with their overall physique.
Breast Asymmetry:
We specialize in addressing breast asymmetry, recognizing that many individuals may experience this natural variation. Our approach focuses on creating balanced and harmonious results, ensuring that each breast complements the other to achieve a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Loss of Volume Following Pregnancy or Weight Loss:
Pregnancy and weight loss can lead to breast volume and shape changes. Our breast augmentation procedures are tailored to restore lost volume, providing a rejuvenated and youthful look. We understand the transformative impact this can have on a person’s self-esteem and body image.

Incision Patterns for Breast Augmentation
There are several incision patterns commonly used for breast augmentation, each with its own set of benefits and potential downsides. Here’s an overview of the most common incision options:

Inframammary Incision (Under the Breast):
Benefits:
This approach is our preferred choice for several reasons. It offers direct access to the breast tissue, providing surgeons precise control over implant placement. The inframammary incision also typically results in less interference with breastfeeding, making it a suitable option for many women.
Considerations:
The scar is located along the inframammary fold, typically concealed by the breast.

Periareolar Incision (Around the Areola):
Benefits:
This incision is made along the edge of the areola, which can help conceal the scar. It allows for excellent control over implant placement and is suitable for silicone and saline implants.
Considerations
There is a risk of changes in nipple sensitivity, and the scar may be more noticeable if the areola is small. There is also a limit regarding the implant size that can be used.

Transaxillary Incision (In the Armpit):
Benefits:
This incision is placed in the armpit, so there are no scars on the breast itself. It can result in less visible scarring.
Considerations:
Access and visibility are limited compared to other incision types. It may not be suitable for all implant types, and revision surgery can be more challenging through this incision.

The choice of incision pattern depends on various factors, including the patient’s anatomy, implant type, surgeon’s preference, and the patient’s desired outcome. During a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, the most suitable incision pattern for your specific case will be discussed based on your individual needs and goals.
Above or Below the muscle
At Neaman Plastic Surgery, we understand that choosing the correct implant placement—whether above or below the muscle—is a significant decision in breast augmentation. We believe in providing you with comprehensive information to make an informed choice that aligns with your individual goals and anatomy.
Below the Muscle (Submuscular) Implant Placement:
Benefits:
Submuscular placement offers a more natural-looking result with increased muscle and breast tissue implant coverage. It can reduce the risk of visible rippling and improve the accuracy of mammograms. This is our preferred choice at Neaman Plastic Surgery, even for our more athletic patients.
Considerations:
Recovery may be slightly longer and initially more uncomfortable due to muscle involvement. However, many patients find the long-term benefits of aesthetics and reduced complications well worth it.
Above the Muscle (Subglandular) Implant Placement:
Benefits:
Implants placed above the muscle often result in a quicker and more comfortable recovery, as there is less muscle manipulation, but should be reserved for patients who have a substantial amount of breast tissue to combat potential complications.
Considerations:
Subglandular placement may be more prone to visible rippling, particularly for patients with minimal breast tissue. In some cases, it may also be associated with a slightly higher risk of capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around the implant). Additionally, results tend to look unnatural, and the longevity of the outcome can be reduced compared to below-the-muscle placement.
How to choose implant Size
At Neaman Plastic Surgery, we recognize that subjective language can be misleading when describing one’s desired outcome, as the term “natural” can mean different things to different individuals. That’s why our approach to determining the ideal implant size is thorough and tailored to your specific needs:
